This exceptional silver mounted ruby glass scent bottle was made by Francis Nisbet in 1856. The thick hand-blown ovoid glass has a rich ruby colour, while the neck presents a push button hinged silver top with a vacant cartouche. Francis Nisbet had his first mark entered in 1856, at 17 Wynyatt Road, in Clerkenwell, London. He passed away a year later, in 1857, at the age of 31. For this reason alone, work made by this silversmith are very rare.
The silver presents FN into a rectangle for Francis Nisbet, the Lion passant, the London assay mark, and date letter “a” for 1856.
