This is a nice silver soap box and cover, of oval shape with plain decoration and monograms on both sides. The interior cover is stamped with the retailer name, Leuchars, Piccadilly. It was made by William Thomas Wright and Frederick Davis in 1872. The business was established in 1864 and was active on Oxford Street, London.
The retailer, Leuchars, was established in 1794, was awarded the Royal Warrant in 1837, and won a silver medal at the 1867 International Exposition and gold medal at the 1878 International Exposition, both in Paris, for their articles of boudoir luxury, particularly dressing cases.
The silver presents W.W above F. D., the Lion Passant, the London Assay mark, and date letter “r” for 1872.
