A fine design from an exceptional silver maker, Hilliard and Thomason, this silver caddy spoon has a naturalistic twisted handle in the form of a trailing rose and a shell shape silver gilt bowel decorated with a floral motif. For an identical example, see ‘Caddy Spoons, An Illustrated Guide' by John Norrie, plate 57f. In 1851, Hilliard and Thomason exhibited at The Grand International Exhibition in London.
The silver caddy spoon presents H & T, the Lion passant, the Birmingham assay mark, and date letter ‘Z' for 1874.
