An exquisite French Napoleon III enamel of Bresse inkwell with attached tray and fine doré bronze mounts, marked 18K on the underside. It is superbly decorated with intricate golden arabesques, enamel reliefs which imitate pearls, and turquoise, red and opal flowers. Objects such as these were made in the Bresse region of Eastern France towards the end of the 19th century, and they were purchased not only by the wealthier section of society, but by the rural part as well, as they were made for all budgets and occasions. You can find an almost identical inkwell in the Museum Of Bresse. A highly collectable piece and a treasure.
