A very rare and rather delightful silver thermometer stand in the form of a pagoda, with engraved foliate decoration and four fluted columns, made by Gervase Wheeler in 1841. The mercury thermometer is attached to a mother of pearl panel with incised temperature scale, and is fully marked to the front.

The silver thermometer presents GW, the Lion passant, the Birmingham assay mark, and date letter 'S' for 1841.
