A fine design from an exceptional silver maker, Hilliard and Thomason, this silver caddy spoon has a naturalistic twisted tendril handle and a fluted silver gilt bowel applied with foliage and fruit decoration. For an identical example, see ‘Caddy Spoons, An Illustrated Guide' by John Norrie, plate 57d. In 1851, Hilliard and Thomason exhibited at The Grand International Exhibition in London.
The silver caddy spoon presents H & T, the Lion passant, the Birmingham assay mark, and date letter 'G' for 1855.
