“Ah, my Beloved, fill the cup that clears
To-day of past Regrets and future Fears –
To-morrow? – Why, To-morrow I may be
Myself with Yesterday’s Sev’n Thousand Years.”

Written in the form of quatrains, The Rubaiyat is attributed to Omar Khayyam (1048-1131), a Persian astronomer and mathematician. It was first rendered into English verse in 1859 by Edward Fitzgerald. The present book, with 16 illustrations and decorations by Willy Pogany, was first published in 1909 by George G. Harrap & Co. Ltd, London. The book on sale, however, is a later, 1920s revised edition and it was offered as a present in 1933. There is a written dedication on the second page that says: ‘with best wishes for 1933.’

An excellent and recommended book.

The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam – E. Fitzgerald and W. Pogany, c1920s
