A splendid antique salt-glazed stoneware pap boat with waves and rain drops design, by Staffordshire Potteries, made around 1750-1759. Unmarked.
Fun Fact: this pap boat was exhibited by Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, until 2023. You can find an almost identical example at The Art Institute of Chicago (1968.425).
Staffordshire Pottery Pap Boat, English, c1750-1759
It presents some wear consistent with age and use. There is a minor hairline on one side of the boat, and a small chip at the bottom. Otherwise, it is in good antique condition.
