Of rectangular form with fluted decoration, this is an impressive and rare silver-mounted ink blotter and stamp box with two sliding stamp compartments, made by Phineas Harris Levi and Joseph Wolff Salaman in 1890. The two sliding lids reveal a gilded interior, while the handle unscrews to release and replace the blotting paper, when needed. Levi and Salaman were the founding partners of the Petosi Silver Company in 1878, specialising in jewellery, novelties and souvenir spoons. The firm became Levi & Salaman Ltd in 1910, and it later merged into Barker Brothers Ltd in 1921.

The stamp blotter presents L&S, Birmingham assay mark, Lion passant and date letter 'p' for 1890.
